Bloomingdale's has apologized for one of its holiday advertisements that appears to promote rape. "Spike your best friend's eggnog when they're not looking." That's the caption written on an image of woman laughing with her head tossed back as a man peers down on her. People on social media were quick to criticize the American department store for what some calle their encouragement of rape. #Bloomingdales encourages you to date rape your friend for the holidays pic.twitter.com/o1Rz4JVMgO— Natalie Bee (@ghostinmarble) November 11, 2015 Earlier this week, Bloomingdale's responded to the criticism saying that the copy choice was inappropriate. "In reflection of recent feedback, the copy we used in our current catalog was inappropriate and in poor taste Bloomingdale's sincerely apologizes for this error in judgment," the company said in a statement. The company, however, did not comment further on any disciplinary action that will be taken. Sarah Murnen, a psychology professor at Kenyon College in Ohio has already used this image in one of her lectures, the Washington Post reports. “It’s sending the message that it is it okay to have sex with people who are incapable of consent," she says. "These are decisions that should be made consciously and willingly.” Bloomingdale's isn't the only company that has gotten in heat for it's alleged promotion of rape this year.
