Sandra Bullock: Women are attacked in the media for how they look

The World's Most Beautiful Woman is "embarrassed" that women continue to be "attacked" for their appearance. People magazine bestowed the title upon Sandra Bullock in April, but the 50-year-old Minions star has seized the opportunity to criticize how women are portrayed in the media. "I feel like it's become open hunting season in how women are attacked, and it's not because of who we are as people, it's because of how we look or our age," she told E!. "I'm shocked, and maybe I was just naïve, but I'm embarrassed by it." Bullock admitted that she is trying to bring up her five-year-old son, Louis, as "a good man who values and appreciates women," but that the media is undercutting that. She noted that little girls are "having the hardest time" with it all, but that she is heartened to see the women from her industry band together to protect one another. "You'd be surprised at the love that you have in our crazy industry," she said. "The women have bonded together and have sort of become this tribe of trying to take care of each other and be there for each other in a way, because the minute you step out it's an onslaught." Three months ago, when Bullock heard she had been named People's Most Beautiful Woman of 2015, her first instinct was to laugh. "I just said, 'That's ridiculous,' " she revealed. "I've told no one." Bullock went on to explain what beauty means to her—and it isn't about looks. "Real beauty is quiet. Especially in this town, it's just so hard not to say, 'Oh, I need to look like that,' " she told People. "No, be a good person, be a good mom, do a good job with the lunch, let someone cut in front of you who looks like they're in a bigger hurry. The people I find most beautiful are the ones who aren't trying." Bullock confessd to E! that she agreed to accept the honour from People on the condition that she could "talk about the amazing women who I find beautiful, which are these women who rise above and take care of business and do wonderful things, and take care of each other." And despite her title, humble Sandy seems to be taking the whole "Most Beautiful" thing in stride. "I've never been a great beauty. I've never been the bombshell that was coveted," she said. "In an odd way, that made growing older a lot easier in this business. I guess I'm doing it on my own terms, and that is my wish for everyone."
